Occupational medicine clinic

The medical section at NIOH is responsible for occupational health assessments. Our medical clinic services referred patients from all of Norway.

Examples of services that offered at our clinic are:

•    Assessment of potential  damage due to solvent exposure
•    Assessment of work-related skin problems
•    Assessment of lung diseases that may be due to work exposure
•    Other work-related questions
•    Evaluation of causal factors in potentially work-related cancer

To get an appointment at our medical clinic you need a referral from your occupational health service, primary-care physician, or the Norwegian Labour and Welfare Administration. In some cases, the patient may already have had an assessment, but there may still be some questions regarding the underlying causal mechanisms. Most often, the patient will have to undergo a personal consultation, though sometimes we can do an assessment through other means.

When there are multiple employees with suspected health damage at the same workplace, we may further investigate potential exposures and causal mechanisms. If there is a need for continual care, please contact your occupational health service.
Treatment at our clinic may be charged a fee. If expenses will occur, please contact the Norwegian Labour and Welfare Administration for pre-approval, since expenses will not automatically be refunded.

For the time being we have two fellows, and six specialists working at the clinic. In addition, we have two neuropsychologists with expertise in the occupational medicine field.
